Once
you are happy that you have created the pages and images in
the correct manner, you can upload them to the Internet server.
We have used screenshots from WS-FTP in this example.
When
you start WS-FTP you will be prompted for the FTP login information.
Enter this exactly and then click "Connect".
You
will be presented with two screens side by side.
The
left screen represents your computer and the right is the
Internet server. On the Internet side are three folders. In
order to have the website display correctly all the files
must go into the "HTDOCS" folder. To open this folder,
double-click it.
You
can also delete, move, rename and create files and folders
on the Internet server using WS-FTP. Your home page (the one
you want to be displayed first) must be called either "default"
or "Index".
In
order to upload your pages and images to the Internet server,
simply locate them on your computer, select the file and then
press the right facing arrow, seen above in the centre of
the image.
You
can also copy files from the Internet to your computer by
selecting the files and then clicking the left facing arrow.
We
recommend that you change your FTP password as often as possible
to prevent a security breach. Our policy is to only disclose
FTP details to clients when we have made sure of their identity.
We
would be pleased to provide advice to you on the use of the
FTP clients but would urge caution if you decide to try and
make changes to your site.
It
is important that you create a copy of your website before
making any changes as, when you upload a file which already
exists, you will over-write the existing one. We suggest that,
before making changes, you download the site from the Internet
to your computer.
If
you require any advice, let us know.
